I am so happy to hear about the J-Man's transition into the new school environment ! Sounds to me like you made the right decision just in time. I bet you see marked improvement in his grades and overall attitude about life in general. *Applause-Applause* I have no doubt that he will become one of the popular kids in no time at all. He really deserves this break in his school life.

As for your scary MRI results, you may choose a less invasive technique for the torn and buldging disks. It's called a Diskectomy and the surgeon goes in through very small incisions and basically trims away the offending disk material and reducing the majority if not all of the pressure on your Sciatica nerve and the surrounding nerve bundles. I myself am going to have this procedure done if I can ever get my damned Medicaid insurance to decide if I am covered or not. Wearing a brace of some type after the surgery is pretty much a necessary item since you do like to have your seizures while table dancing in Cuban heels, but - I'll leave that up to you dear. My Sciatica pain (left ass cheek down to the calf) was hurting so badly that I went to the ER last Wednesday and I got a shot of Cortisone in the butt cheek and a shot of Torodol (Non-Narcotic pain killer) and within 48 hours my pain was reduced by at least 75% ! That is your other option: Spinal Epidural shots in the affected disks, normally a series of three, and that works for most folks - but you have a tear and I don't think that will be helped, just the buldging disks. Options Options Options - which way to go?

So dearheart, that is my two cents worth of info on the subject of back pain from disk problems. Obviously I'm not a Doctor but I sure could play one on TV for the right amount of cash-ola. WHEE !

Good luck in all of your day-to-day stuffs Hun and know that I am sending you a cyber-Hug from Tucson Arizona and a psychic shot of Demerol to make you hurt less.
I can honestly say that I DO feel your pain and it SUCKS mightily damnit.

I can second (third? fourth?) that the cocoa roast almonds are great for a sweet-slightly-salty fix. They also make a sweet-salty "peanut butter-chocolate" nut mix that contains some sort of walnut/pecan that I suspect might be frosted with crack.

Glad to hear about school for the kiddoo.

Ever consider moving to Florida though? Much improvement to the weather. ;)

Jen, cant you ask your surgeon if they can put you in a brace thus avoiding further injury in case you have another seizure

Just got my MRI results too, and I have a herniation, some arthritis in all my lumbar, and another bulging. I'm trying to avoid surgery, and have an appointment with a physiologist next month. This back pain is for the birds.

That sucks about your MRI--I had 2 herniations in my lower spine as well as some arthritis happening and ended up having surgery. I have to say I was really happy with the results, especially because I had been in so much pain for so long, but I didn't have the additional complication of possible seizures after surgery. I spent the first week after in bed mostly, but I was paranoid about re-herniating for quite a while afterwards.

Have you tried Muncheros Japanese Peanuts? You can find them at the Dollar Store. They're spicy peanuts but they do something to them where they have a hard outer shell which provides for a very satisfying crunch. Google 'em. They're DELICIOUS.

Sorry to hear about the disc problems. Ugh. Great to hear that the J-Man is enjoying his new school. It sounds like a great environment for him.
